| Members Who Inspire Excellence Meg Finney, Memorial High School, Millville Meg Finney has been selected as one of two American Association of School Librarians (AASL) sponsored participants in the American Library Association’s (ALA) 2016 Emerging Leaders program. Meg has dedicated herself to revitalizing her library's facility, collection, instruction and reputation. She actively pursues collaborative partnerships, including a mental and emotional health book program, public library card program for district students, helping to launch the first Gay-Straight Alliance in her school, and creating an online, on-demand course of tutorials, research guides, and videos for students and teachers. Meg will collaborate with her fellow Emerging Leaders in an online learning and networking environment for six months, culminating in a poster session at the 2016 Annual Conference in Orlando. The ALA Emerging Leaders program is designed to enable talented new library professionals to bring their talent, energy, and approaches to the library community. Arlen Kimmelman, Clearview Regional High School American Association of School Librarians (AASL) and the Ruth Toor Grant Subcommittee selected Arlen Kimmelman, Clearview Regional High School’s School Librarian, as the recipient of the inaugural 2015 American Association of School Librarians’ Ruth Toor Grant, sponsored by Jay Toor. This prestigious grant was established to honor Ruth Toor, a veteran school librarian, AASL past president, and author. The Ruth Toor Grant for Strong Public School Libraries is a new annual grant that provides financial support to a public school library that is interested in increasing local awareness regarding the importance of school libraries and certified school librarians. The recipient is awarded $5,000 to support an initiative on the strategic importance of school librarians and how their role can support their vision or goal for the school system and advance it. |
